Dame Mary’s dear friend, broadcaster Alex Jones, joins her in the kitchen to celebrate how Mary’s friends and family - and, of course, the viewers - have been at the heart of her cooking for 60 years. Along with Alex, who is an enthusiastic but still nervous cook, Mary is also joined by her right-hand woman of 35 years, Lucy Young. Lucy, a trained cook, came to work with Mary straight from college and has been essential to recipe testing, writing books and running her office ever since.
To honour both these women, Mary has decided to bring out the big guns. Out of the thousands of recipes Mary has written over the years, she is going to cook the ones she is asked for time and time again, including her cheesy mushroom and spinach lasagne, a reinvention of her 1970s chocolate cake, her husband Paul's favourite cheesy nutter snacks, and the nation's all-time favourite, Mary's Victoria sandwich.
