All Souls' Day

On All Souls’ Day, the Rev Kate Bottley explores faith, grief and bereavement with Christians in the Midlands and visits a bereavement-friendly church.

All Souls’ Day is traditionally a time in the church calendar dedicated to remembering those who have died, and on this Sunday, the Rev Kate Bottley visits Christians in the Midlands to explore faith, grief and bereavement.

She meets Yvonne Tulloch, founder of the AtaLoss charity, who talks about her personal journey of grief and how it inspired her to found an organisation offering courses and resources to help people on their bereavement journey. Kate then visits Riverside Church in Moseley, which has embraced the charity’s holistic approach to grief and become their first bereavement-friendly church.

We meet a fourth-generation funeral director, who reflects on the role religion can play when faced with loss and talks about his initiative for death and grief to be included in the national school curriculum.

Kate also meets a highly successful businesswoman whose life turned upside down when her husband tragically died aged just 30. She reflects on how two life-changing epiphanies put her back on the track to faith and helped her find light in the darkness.

With hymns of comfort and hope.
