A concert of music and readings from Book Week 2022 with John Toal, the Ulster Orchestra and special guests. A captivating mix of soundtracks with book associations, including Mary Poppins, Harry Potter, Matilda, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz, Princess Kaguya, Miss Marple and Paddington Bear.
The concert includes the symphonic premiere of Paul Campbell’s musical interpretation of Jabberwocky and a medley of well-known BBC tv and radio themes which was commissioned to mark the BBC’s centenary. It includes Z Cars, Line of Duty, Animal Magic, Jackanory and Lillibulero (which was the title and theme music for the first BBC network radio drama from Northern Ireland in 1938).
Guest performances by Zeb Soanes, Sarah Richmond, Neil Martin, Julia Dearden and Aoibhéann McCann.
The Ulster Orchestra was conducted by Stephen Bell.
A Box of Delights was originally broadcast as part of Book Week 2022, a joint initiative between the BBC and Libraries NI.
