Road to the North
This week's Pipeline takes you to the North and West of Scotland, with a stopover in the coalfields of Lanarkshire and the oilfields of the North Sea.
Gary West takes you on a piping tour of Scotland, with his gaze fixed firmly on the North and West, with musical visits to Assynt, Plockton, Moidart, Skye, Lewis, South Uist and Clachnacuddin! The lowlands do get a look in too, with a stopover in the coalfields of Lanarkshire courtesy of a classic album from the Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band. There's a taster of music with roots that may just stretch back six centuries to the earliest days of the bagpipe's story in Scotland, as well as an emotive composition which commemorates those who lost their lives in the Piper Alpha tragedy of 1998.
