Hope for Justice
Our vision is of a world free from modern slavery. We work across five continents to prevent exploitation, rescue victims, and restore lives. In Ethiopia, we run Lighthouse shelters which offer refuge to children forced into domestic servitude. We provide care, support and trauma-informed therapy to help them recover and rebuild their confidence, before we return them to their homes or to family-based care.
Aberash’s story

12-year-old Aberash’s dream of a better life was crushed when she was forced into domestic work, and beaten. We took Aberash in after neighbours heard her screams and called the police. She was unable to even speak at first. But with our care, she began to recover.
Art as therapy

We encouraged Aberash to draw to express her feelings. Like many of the children in our care, this helped Aberash rediscover her self-esteem. Aberash began to enjoy lessons at the Lighthouse, and open up to her counsellor who provided support in her mother tongue, Wolaytigna.
Impact of Covid-19

Aberash is now happily reunited with her family. But the pandemic has left many more children in Ethiopia out of school, putting them at even higher risk of being exploited. With testing on entry and quarantine rooms, our Lighthouse teams can still take children in safely. With your support, we can protect children’s freedom.
