Lilian attempts to build bridges and Helen comes clean.
Helen’s having no luck finding replacements for Lee’s figure boxes. It’s time to tell Lee what’s happened. Joy offers to do it as the damage occurred on her watch, but Helen says she’ll tell Lee herself. In the end they do it together. Lee’s sad, but stoic. He admits later when coaxed by Helen that he was being polite to start with. He’s had some of those figures for years. But now he’s realised for the first time that they are better played with. Helen thinks Jack will be over the moon, which makes Lee happy.
Peggy wonders whether Jennifer will ever forgive her for hiding the truth about Alice. Lilian tells her Jennifer’s just frantic with worry; Alice has agreed to rehab but is being uncooperative. Peggy remembers similar feelings before Jack went into the sanitorium. She could help Jennifer, if she’d let her. Peggy asks whether Lilian believes she did the wrong thing by not telling Jennifer when she first knew about Alice. Lilian admits she might feel as Jenny does if it was her. But what’s done is done, and she’ll do her best to sort it for Peggy. Peggy’s grateful. She confesses she’s not sure rehab is the best option for Alice. It was a fool’s errand in Jack’s case, and he died a horrible death. Lilian assures Peggy things are different these days, and that Alice will be treated well and appropriately. Fears allayed, Peggy suggests offering to help pay for the rehab. She can’t bear to think of Alice ending up like her grandfather.
