1Xtra and the BBC Asian Network join together for the Words First 2019 final showcase.

Recorded live at the BBC Contains Strong Language Festival in Hull, Yasser and Shareefa Energy present to you the hottest emerging spoken word talent in the UK discovered through the Words First scheme.

Our six Words First finalists Amina Atiq (Liverpool), Esther Koch (Manchester), Tom Denbigh (Bristol), Birdspeed (Whiltshire via Barbados and London), Christy Ku (London), SAF-S2E (Manchester) perform new bold, powerful and thought provoking spoken word pieces they have written over the course of this year's scheme.

Yasser and Shareefa also hear from Jude Yawson, this year's scheme ambassador and co-author with Stormzy of 'Rise Up: The #Merky Story So Far', and Shareefa performs work from her spoken word EP.
