Spike Lee's Playlist
Spike Lee plays some of his favourite tunes on BBC 6 Music. Artists include, Aretha Franklin, Sampha, Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye and Minnie Ripperton
Legendary Malcolm X director Spike Lee plays 15 tracks. A mix of his personal favourites taken straight from his phone one morning at BBC 6 Music. Songs include Marvin Gaye's title track from the film Trouble Man. Mary Don't You Weep by Prince, a song discovered in the vault at Paisley Park ( his extraordinary private estate and production complex in Chanhassen) which end credits Spike's new movie Blackkklansman. Spike also talks of being a fan of George Gershwin and plays Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong taken from Porgy and Bess. Spike provides a really ecclectic mix with some surprises such as Sampha and Minnie Ripperton. Other artists include Fluetry, The Jones Girls, Alicia Keys and Chaka Khan.
