Toby is quick to react, and Pip and Rex catch up.

Before heading out to visit some dairy farmer friends with Pip, Ruth discusses Brian's land purchase with Jill. Jill thinks it's a positive move, they wonder how Adam feels about it. Ruth says Pip has gone to see Rex which Jill scoffs at. Ruth doesn't think Jill can think badly of Rex just because she's not keen on Toby.

Pip finds Rex in the middle of making large quantities of dahl to save money. Pip learns about the allowance Rex and Toby receive from their dad and that it's now ending. Later, Pip suggests to Rex that he asks David for a rent holiday on Hollowtree. Rex doesn't want to go there, David has already been such a generous landlord. Pip wishes she could lend Rex some money, she thinks he'd be a good man to back.

Toby - sent into Brookfield by Pip to retrieve a tablet with important data on - comes across Jill taking down Christmas cards from a high shelf. Stubborn Jill refuses his help and then falls. Toby helps her up, he can tell her ankle is badly sprained, and takes her to a minor injuries unit. There, Ruth and Pip join them. Jill thinks they're all making an unnecessary fuss. She acknowledges Toby's efforts through gritted teeth.
