Friday Night is Music Night - 500 Words - Dick and Dom's Big Adventures

In the week of the launch of the 500 Words short story competition for 2017 - another chance to hear a special 500 Words concert first broadcast after last year's final.

Suspense, excitement and faraway lands. Stories of swallows, amazons, pirates and superheroes. Dastardly villains, loveable rogues, Famous Fives and Secret Sevens. What is it about a gripping tale of derring-do that we love so much? This evening's Friday Night is Music Night recalls the adventure tales we loved as children as interpreted by the world's greatest composers in music.

The BBC Concert Orchestra is conducted by Stephen Bell and perform music inspired by The Hobbit(JRR Tolkein), The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn(Mark Twain), Peer Gynt(Ibsen), Harry Potter(JK Rowling); James Bond(Ian Fleming) as well as comic book superheroes Batman, Superman and Tin Tin.

Guests include West End leading lady Kerry Ellis and singing sensations Collabro(Michael Auger, Richard Hadfield, Jamie Lambert, Matthew Pagan and Thomas J Redgrave)

Tonight's musical bibliophiles are Dick and Dom(aka as Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood). They are currently celebrating 20 years as children's presenters - starting out on CBBC in 1996 and picking up a clutch of Baftas for programmes such as their Saturday morning series Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow; Diddy Movies, Diddy TV; Splatalot and The Legend of Dick and Dom . Their science entertainment show 'Absolute Genius' which won them the BAFTA for best presenters is now filming it's fifth series.

The concert was recorded at the Hackney Empire in front of a family audience. Concert first broadcast in May last year
