Episode 3
Penny Gore with music from the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Kodaly: Dances of Marosszek. Haydn: Cello Concerto No 1 in C (soloist: Paul Watkins). Brahms: Symphony No 1 in C minor, Op 68.
Penny Gore continues her week featuring performances by the BBC Symphony Orchestra. There's an Austro-Hungarian theme today in works by Haydn, Brahms and Kodaly. Semyon Bychkov conducts a recent Barbican Hall concert including Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major with cellist Paul Watkins plus Brahms' titanic First Symphony. And in the lead up to Radio 3's Folk Connections weekend, the orchestra performs Kodaly's folk-inspired Dances of Marosszek.
