Let's Go Round Again - The Story of The Magic Roundabout

The Magic Roundabout was first shown on BBC TV in 1965. Sophie Thompson and Phyllida Law tell its iconic story. From 2015.

In October 1965, an adapted version of French TV's Manège Enchanté was shown on BBC TV.

Scripted and voiced by BBCTV's Playschool presenter Eric Thompson, and broadcast with its English title - The Magic Roundabout, it soon became a favourite with viewers of all ages.

In fact, when it was moved to an earlier time, there were so many complaints from outraged adults that it was moved back to its old slot - just before the early evening news!

To celebrate its anniversary, Sophie Thompson, Eric's daughter, and his wife Phyllida Law tell us the stories behind the much-loved series.

With tales of Zebedee, Florence and Ermintrude - hear how Dougal the dog nearly caused international relations with France to break down!
