Banking on Benefits

Unflinching documentary following the efforts of the Kings Store House, a Christian food bank, to feed the people of Rhyl, where a quarter of the population is unemployed.

Banking on Benefits is an unflinching look at how a food bank in Rhyl on the north Wales coast is battling to feed a town where a quarter of its population is unemployed. Started in 2012, the Kings Store House is a Christian group, led by Pastor Mike Bettaney and Sarah and Dave Jones which delivers three food parcels a night, seven days a week and demand is growing. But the problems don't end with lack of food. By taking food parcels into homes the group see how benefit cuts and substandard housing impact on peoples' lives. As the crisis worsens and the food bank struggles to keep up with referrals, their motto of 'giving people a hand up, rather than a handout' becomes harder to fulfil. Will they meet the challenge?
