One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Drama set in a psychiatric hospital about a crook who inspires his fellow patients to assert themselves in the face of the hospital's oppressive routines.
Milos Forman's Oscar-winning adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel. Jack Nicholson plays McMurphy, a two-bit crook who, facing a jail sentence, feigns mental illness to be sentenced to a psychiatric hospital. But his plan backfires when the hospital turns out not to be the easy ride he expected, with its oppressive routines and a tyrannical head nurse who is out to quash any vestige of the patients' personal independence. Free-spirited McMurphy becomes a catalyst for the frustrations of his downtrodden fellow patients and a worthy adversary for the head nurse.
