Drama in which Paul Newman reprises his role from The Hustler. 'Fast' Eddie Felson, an ageing liquor salesman, is inspired by talented youngster Vincent to revisit the old days and take up the pool cue after a 25-year break. With the aid of the young man's girlfriend, he encourages his new-found apprentice to learn the hustler's art in backwater pool halls. It isn't long before both headstrong protege and mentor are gunning for the same big bucks.
