A crusading lawyer puts his life on the line to expose racism and duplicity in the NYPD following the shooting of a Hispanic drug dealer by a tough but respected police lieutenant. The third of director Sidney Lumet's films about police corruption, following Serpico and Prince of the City - a theme to which he would return in 1997 in Night Falls on Manhattan.
