Two single-parent families, the Butterworths from urban Leeds and the Hulls from an Essex village, volunteer to exchange lives for a week, swapping homes, pets, jobs, schools, diet and even house rules. Renovations day - Maggi's family have decided to revamp Anne's kitchen cupboards, while in Leeds Anne is preparing for the carpet fitters to arrive.
