Oscar-winning crime thriller set in 1950s Los Angeles. An investigation begins into the Nite Owl massacre, in which six people including an ex-policeman were slain. The public demands an arrest and the LAPD, already under scrutiny, is quick to provide the most convenient and likely suspects.
As new evidence surfaces, officers Bud White and Ed Exley find themselves forced to work together and discover that the one thing they have in common is a mysterious and beautiful woman, Lynn Bracken.
