Think you can sing? Laura Mvula tells you how

You don't need to spend loads of money on singing lessons or be a really technical singer to give great performances.

There are some things you can do in your bedroom when you're practising or just before a public performance.

We caught up with Laura Mvula and she shared her top tips to help improve your singing skills.

1. Make sure you're relaxed

Laura says "It's really important to make sure your larynx is as relaxed as possible".

Yawning can really help with this, even if you have to do it 20 times!

For Laura, this is a key part of your warm up.

"If you're tense at any point, that's what you're trying to get away from".

2. Drink loads of water

Not only have you got to be relaxed but you've got to keep your larynx in good shape.

"If you're going to singing publicly, you need to be drinking at least 2 hours before.

It really helps to loosen up your throat".

That's water people... water!

3. Connect with what you are singing about

If you don't care about the song you are singing, your audience will know and your performance won't be the best.

Laura says "Stay real and stay in the song.

I don't do singing for singing's sake".
