Tom Ravenscroft's 4 songs you should hear this week - w/e 1 September

Every day we play you a track that has just landed on our laps. And as soon as we hear it, we send it into the digital ether for you all to enjoy. Sometimes it's an exclusive, sometimes it's a favourite artist, and other times it'll be a brand new artist. Here's this week's selection. Just hit the link at the bottom to see the full Just Added playlist:

Broen - Time
This is taken from the Norwegian five piece’s debut album, which will be released by Bella Union next month. We think their name might mean Bridge (based largely on the Scandi thriller that shares a name). Fond of bright clothes and glitter (their look – pictured - is quite fashion-lovin’ festivalgoer) the band have built a reputation for strong dance moves. This song might require the more sedate steps in their repertoire.

Frøkedal – Cracks
Proving this week that there’s more musically to this country than A-ha, here’s another Norwegian: Anne Lise Frøkedal. Frøkedal says of this song “nothing is more scary than exposing our weaknesses and imperfections.” We can possibly think of one or two things, but we’ll forgive the hyperbole because it’s a pretty ditty.

Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile – Over Everything
Courtney and Kurt, why did we not think of this earlier? “Kurtney” perhaps if we go for a tabloid-friendly portmanteau. They’ve apparently been hard core fans of each other’s work for years. Well we’re fans of both and salute this pairing.

Robert Plant – Bones Of Saints
The Led Zeppelin frontman has been back in the studio with his Shapeshifters, whose line-up has been boosted by the fiddling folk star Seth Lakeman. This is the second taste of Robert’s new album, Carry Fire, which is due out next month.
