5 songs you should hear this week - w/e 15 September

Every day we play you a track that has just landed on our laps. As soon as we hear it, we send it into the digital ether for you all to enjoy. Sometimes it's an exclusive, sometimes it's a favourite artist and, other times, it'll be a brand new artist. Here's this week's choice selection. Just hit the links to see the full Just Added playlist:

Everything Is Recorded - Mountains Of Gold
This project sees record producer and XL boss Richard Russell team up with Mercury-winner Sampha, as well as the French-Cuban duo Ibeyi, NYC rapper Wiki and jazz giant Kamasi Washington – that’s quite the crew. Richard says the song is “sound system inspired, you can hear a lot of strong and different personalities and voices but the feeling is consistent. Everyone has plenty of space." Well watch this space, because more music is promised soon.

Tennis – No Exit
This is taken from the Denver duo’s as yet un-named EP but we’ll await further news with patience, because they only released LP Yours Conditionally six months ago. Taking its name from Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialist 1944 play, Alaina describes it as “a dance song for my inner nihilist. I have never related to songs that invoke a carefree, forever young, dance-until-dawn state of mind. Patrick and I are devoutly mid-tempo songwriters, a fact I wanted to remedy by creating a dancey 120 bpm sort of thing that appeals to my persistent sense of malaise.”

Four Tet – Scientists
Four Tet’s becoming such a regular on the Just Added playlist, we may start calling it Kieran for short. This synthy and saxy number (the latter kicks in after three minutes) is the last to be released into the world, before LP New Energy materialises at the end of the month. Kieran says he finds making music therapeutic and wants “to be able to look back, when I’m an old man, and have these records tell a story.” We look forward to hearing some tales, when he joins us on the 28th.

Confidence Man - Better Sit Down Boy
Aussie four-piece Confidence Man first came to our attention via Boyfriend (repeat) whose parenthesised direction we took literally, with repeated spins on the Morning Show. There’s been a fair bit of hype too: they’ve been remixed by Mr Weatherall and their live reputation precedes them, thanks to choreographed dance moves and veils. It brings to mind Doin’ The Do (that melody could easily sit over the top of the instrumental and cowbells) but will no doubt get us ring a ding dancing in the studio.

L’Orange feat. Oddisee – Look Around
Ravers has long been a fan of this North Carolina producer with regular spins on his Friday night show. It’s a free download, ahead of the release of LP The Ordinary Man next month. And, for this track, L’Orange has enlisted another Mello Music star Oddisee (who’s lent his voice to the likes of Hudson Mohawke and Flying Lotus). It’s a classy collaboration. Get it in your ears.
