Greg James visits Jordan

Our very own Greg James is about to face his toughest physical challenge yet as he takes on BBC Radio 1's Gregathlon for Sport Relief. Over five gruelling days, the determined DJ will attempt to run, swim and cycle a triathlon a day, across five UK cities; all while taking the time to keep Radio 1 listeners fully up to speed with his progress throughout the day.

Greg talks about his trip to Jordan and the kids he has met in the refugee camps.

You CAN make a difference.

Greg’s trip to Jordan showed him first-hand how money raised through Sport Relief can really change lives. He met displaced families living in desperate conditions within a refugee camp there, and heard some of their stories.

Tragically, more than half of all Syrian refugees in Jordan are children who’ve been forced to flee the conflict which has destroyed their country and torn their lives apart. Many are now stranded in a barren desert just inside Jordan, and 80% are struggling to survive on around just £2 a day. Whilst visiting, Greg saw how money raised through Sport Relief is helping these children get a vital education, and supporting their families to maintain a crucial sense of community.
Jesam and Ahmed* live in the Zaatari camp in Jordan. They were forced to leave their home in Syria and become refugees. The thing they most enjoy doing at the camp is practicing Taekwondo. They love Taekwondo and are also learning to speak Korean. (*The boys names have been changed to protect their identities.)
