Consultation Claims - January 2026

Watchdog investigates Consultation Claims – a company that promises to represent motorists in claims for mis-sold car finance. After a serious mis-selling took place, it’s estimated around £8 billion is owed to drivers who had car finance between certain dates, with an average claim of roughly £700. Claims can be made through your car manufacturer, or a legitimate third party.

However, we’ve heard from people who have been signed up to contracts with Consultation Claims, without their knowledge and have even been shown contracts with their signatures on that they say, they did not sign.

Mike from Northern Ireland got a contract and email thanking him for signing up with Consultation Claims. The contract contained a lot of his personal information, including address and date of birth. The company said he had electronically signed the documents, when Mike says, that he had never seen the documents before. The contract also stated that a ‘termination fee’ applied if the contract was cancelled, 14 days after it was signed. Mike has never had a car on finance either, so did not understand how or why the company could have found his information.

Jane from Bristol has previously taken out car finance and is making a claim directly through BMW. Despite that, she received a contract from Consultation Claims, complete with a signature, that was not hers. The contract entitled the company to take up to 30% of her payout. Jane insists she had never seen or signed that contract.

We contacted Consultation Claims and it apologised wholeheartedly to all affected customers. It said that as soon as it became aware of customer concerns in late September, it launched an investigation, identified the problem, and suspended the third-party suppliers responsible. It added that it is truly sorry for the difficulties and confusion caused by the actions of the other company, in particular its handling of customer information.

Consultation Claims concluded by saying the experiences of the affected customers has not met its high standards, and that it is taking action to put things right and prevent this happening again, directing people in need of support to call its helpline: 0333 053 5411.
