Draw Your Album: The Laurie from Slaves critique

Over the amazingness that was Live Lounge Month we grabbed the artists that crossed the Radio 1 threshold and made them draw their album covers for us. Yup, made them.

What we didn't tell them was they would all be judged at the end and critiques by Laurie from Slaves. The perfect person because he's a legit artist who designed his very own album cover.

Mwa-ha-haaaaaaaaaa.

We very professionally *cough* displayed the artwork that the Live Lounge celebs had drawn and directed Laurie to his judging material: post-its and a pen.

Zara Larsson was given first place with the comment of 'Great'. High praise.

Martin Garrix and Bebe Rexha got second place for their drawing of their single In The Name Of Love. He enjoyed 'the shapes', finding it 'illustrative'.

Clean Bandit was put in third for their attempt at album New Eyes with the critique 'Geometric'.

Gallant and One Republic were told to "stick to music!"

Though he did enjoy how Mura Masa's cover looked a little like the symbol for the national lottery.

Hence the post-it word 'lottery'. Lols.

Finally Laurie insisted on picking a few 'honourable mentions' which he handed out to Izzy Bizzu, Biffy Clyro and Christine and The Queens.

We really enjoyed his 'say what you see' approach to the critiques.

Slaves were in the building for a session in the Live Lounge, which gently helped the fact that Live Lounge Month is no more.

Sob.

They performed a beaut version of their single Spit It Out and a cover of The Weeknd's The Hills.

But they said they’d rather have covered a Robbie Williams track because 'pop music in 2016 all sounds the same' plus Robbie is Laurie’s karaoke favourite.

Natch.

You can watch their full performance right here!
