Share your scam story

We want to hear your stories of scams you might have seen, avoided, or even been hit by. There is no shame in being scammed, there is a scam for everyone, and anyone could be caught out. The more we share our stories, the better we can protect each other.

If you’d like to, record a video, or get someone else to record it for you, of you telling us about the scam you saw, avoided, or were caught by, in as much detail as possible. Be aware this video could be used for any, or multiple, BBC or BBC Studios programmes, which may be on television, radio, online, or on social media.

You could tell us as much or as little as you like, but you might talk about things like:

  • How and where did you first spot the scam?
  • What was convincing about it?
  • Describe it in as much detail as possible
  • Why did you believe it, or nearly believe it?
  • What happened, if you interacted with it?
  • How did the story end?
  • How do you feel about it now?

Try and film it landscape if you can and try and have a neutral plain background behind you, make sure only people over 18 are in the video, and try to record somewhere with plenty of light, and that’s quiet.
