Eurovision Song Contest 2007

The event

Thanks to the overwhelming victory by monster rockers Lordi in 2006, this year, Finland takes over as hosts of the competition and Helsinki is set to be swamped with Euro-fans.

The Finnish public broadcaster, YLE, is to host the contest at the Hartwall Arena, near Helsinki's city centre.

The semi-final will take place on Thursday 10 May. A record 42 countries will take part this year including two new participating countries: Georgia and the Czech Republic.

Forty-two countries will take part in the 52nd annual Eurovision Song Contest. Of those 42 countries, 28 will compete in the semi-final.

Ten of the semi-final participants will qualify for the final on Saturday 12 May joining the top 12 from the 2006 competition plus the Big Four countries – France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom, who automatically qualify.
