Scooch in Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up

Scooch win Making Your Mind Up

Scooch have been chosen by the public to represent the UK at the 52nd annual Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki, Finland, this year after winning against Cyndi in a dramatic final sing off.

Singing Flying The Flag (For You), Scooch were selected tonight (17 March 2007) by viewers of Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up on BBC One.

Scooch will now sing 19th out of 24 acts in the contest in May, following the Ukraine, and preceding Romania.

After four of the acts were unsuccessful in the first vote count, Cyndi and Scooch were left to sing again for the final decider.

Of Scooch's performance, judge John Barrowman, said: "I loved it. Colourful, camp. Made everyone in this room smile."

Judge Mel Giedroyc, said: "It ticked so many Eurovision boxes. It was kitschy, catchy, great props ... fantastic. I loved it, loved it."

In a UK exclusive, last year's winners Lordi performed their Eurovision hit Hard Rock Hallelujah on the show, their only television performance before their appearance at Eurovision in Helsinki.

Reformed especially for Eurovision – Making Your Mind Up, all-singing, all-dancing pop quartet, Scooch are Caroline Barnes, David Ducasse, Natalie Powers and Russ Spencer.
