A scoop happens when a newspaper or a news agency manages to report an important story before any of its competitors.

It's very difficult to get a scoop in the modern media world when so many journalists are chasing the same story.

However, when they do succeed in getting a scoop, you will often see it announced proudly in the newspaper as an exclusive story.

Piers Morgan: A leak is a leak. We didn't publish the material, so it is not a traditional leak.
