Nupeng strike suspended, wetin dey inside dia agreement wit Dangote

Details don come out about di Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) wey members of di National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (Nupeng) sign wit Dangote Refinery on Tuesday, wey make di union call-off dia strike.
Remember say Nupeng bin start strike on Monday 8 September, sake of some gbas-gbos wey dem and di management of Dangote Refinery bin dey get.
One of di accuse wey Nupeng bring against Dangote Refinery na say dem no gree allow dia workers to bicom members of di union and dat na one of di tactics to take monopolise di petroleum sector for Nigeria.
Afta di first day of meeting on Monday, di matter no get head as none of di parties wan gree for di oda, but for di second day of di meeting wey di Federal Ministry of labour and Employment call, di two parties las las agree and sign MoU.
Benson Upah of di Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nuhu Toro of di Trade Union Congress (TUC), Akporeha Williams and Afolabi Olawale wey be president and secretary of Nupeng, represent di labour unions.
Dangote Group dey represented by dia Managing Director Sayyu Dantata, and Ojimba Jibrin.
Ogbugo Ukoha represent di Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), while di Labour Ministry dey represented by Amos Falonipe, di director, Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations.
Nupeng na one of di many unions wey dey Nigeria and dia work na mostly to transport fuel products to different parts of di kontri.
Say dem shutdown mean say no tanker don load or transport any product to any location since Monday.
Wetin dis one mean be say some filling stations fit don begin run out of fuel to sell – and dis one fit begin cause scarcity.

For di meeting wey dem do to end di strike, Nupeng and Dangote group agree say:
- Workers unionization na right, no be privilege, so di management of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals go allow dia employees wey dey interested to belong to di union make dem do so.
- Dangote employers no go set up any oda union apart from Nupeng.
- Sake of di strike notice, no worker or employee of Dangote refinery and Petrochemical go dey victimised.
- Dis process of unionisation for Dangote refinery workers go last for two weeks and e go take effect on September 9th to 22nd, 2025.
- Parties go revert to di minister of Labour one week afta di conclusion of di engagement.
- Based on di MoU, Nupeng agree to suspend di industrial action wit immediate effect.
- Di Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Western Zone, who bin start dia own strike in solidarity wit Nupeng, also call am off.

Nupeng para say Dangote Petroleum Refinery plan to import 4,000 trucks wey dey use Compressed Natural Gas [CNG] wey di company wan use distribute petroleum products to retailers go cause kasala for di truck drivers department of di union.
For statement wey di union post on Friday, di union sama accuse on Dangote refinery say dem dey do activities wey dey against labour sake of say Dangote refinery don match leg for ground say di new drivers wey go drive di imported trucks no go join any union.
"Indeed by di virtue of Section 254C (2) of di Constitution of Nigeria, a ratified ILO provision na constitutional provision. Diafore any practice or policy by any employer wey wan deprive workers of dia right of association na affront to di constitution".
Nupeng also call NLC, TUC. and oda trade unions to join dem for dis struggle.
Dem dey also para say dis 4,000 trucks wey Dangote wan bring na threat to di work of dia members for di Petroleum Tanker Drivers branch.
Nupeng also tok say dem bin don do tok-tok and hold many meetings, wit di Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, to try convince Dangote to reconsider di decision but dem allegedly no gree listen.
