Make Some Music Nicky BignellNicky Bignell is the BBC Legal and Business Affairs Rights Manager and specialises in anything and everything to do with music copyright. Besides clearing existing music with record companies and music publishers, she also commissions composers to write new music.
Here she gives some pointers for composers wishing to work with the BBC.
Do every little job, no matter how small. A lot of composers have got into television by first writing for their friends' films. Do not be frightened to network. If you know a runner on Going Live give them your showreel. Compose for library/production music companies. It's a great way to raise your profile. Who decides which composer to pick and what criteria do they use? Who decides varies, and there is a tendency for composers to work in a niche. What about the budget and my fee? It's all linked to where you are as a composer. |
