More than 1,000 schools stay shut in parts of UK due to snow

It's another snow day for lots of children in the UK as the wintry weather has affected schools for a second day.
Schools in some parts of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland didn't welcome pupils back after the Christmas break on Monday because of the weather.
More snow is forecast for later in the week when Storm Goretti is expected to hit large parts of England and Wales.
Aberdeenshire has declared a "major incident" because of the heavy snow.

Scotland

More than 300 schools across Scotland have been impacted on Tuesday, including across Shetland, Orkney, and Aberdeenshire.
Aberdeenshire Council has declared a "major incident" and all Aberdeen schools will be closed on Wednesday, due to the forecast conditions.
The Met Office says another 5-10cm could fall, with up to 15cm in some places.
There is a yellow warning, for most of Scotland for Wednesday.
Wales

It was announced that schools in Gwynedd, Anglesey, Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot, and Bridgend county would be shut again on Tuesday due to the wintry weather.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across much of the country.
Wales is expected to be affected by more heavy snowfall from Thursday evening through into Friday.
Northern Ireland

More than 180 schools said they delayed the return to the classroom for pupils after the Christmas break because of the weather.
The Met Office says there's also a risk of icy surfaces.
England
The cold snap has also impacted pupils in England with more than 100 schools closed because of the weather on Tuesday.
And more snow is on the way for some areas. Up to 20cm is forecast to fall in parts of central and southern England and Wales at the end of the week.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has extended an amber cold-health alert for all regions of England until Sunday 11 January.
