United manager Ruben Amorim has been sacked

Manchester United have sacked their manager Ruben Amorim after 14 months in the job.

He was given the role in November 2024, and was in position when Man U reached the Uefa Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.

Ruben Amorim has been expressing frustration with Manchester United management for a number of weeks now but had said he would stay until the end of his 18 month contract.

The Red Devils are currently sixth place in the Premier League, and the club said in a statement that the change of leadership would "give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish".

He will be in place when Manchester United take on Burnley on Wednesday.

Man U suffered the worst Premiere League since the 1970s last season

In a press conference on Sunday after United's 1-1 draw against Leeds, Ruben Amorim mentioned other Premier League bosses and suggested they would not be treated the way he has been at his club:

"I know that my name is not [Thomas] Tuchel, it's not [Antonio] Conte, it's not [Jose] Mourinho, but I'm the manager of Manchester United.

"And it's going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change.

"I'm not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me."
