A 575-year-old sword pommel has been found by a teenager with a metal detector.

Lucas, who is 14-years-old, made the amazing discovery when he went to a dig in a field in North Yorkshire with his dad, Dave.

A pommel is the heavy metal knob that would have been fixed to the end of a sword's handle. They were used to balance out the weight of a sword, making it easier to swing and stopping it from sliding out of the hand.

The pommel Lucas found has lots of detailed engravings and 26 sides!

The Portable Antiquities Service - which records archaeological objects found by the public - said that the pommel was from between AD1350 and 1450.

Even though Lucas would love to keep his discovery, his dad Dave said it belonged in a museum.

Dave said everyone they meet on digs think it's "absolutely amazing".

He added: "Lucas is a Brazilian jiu jitsu fighter and he found a warrior's sword that had been buried for hundreds of years."
