Wider BBC Programming for Children in Need
Children in Need 2016

A special concert took place on Tuesday 1 November at the Royal Albert Hall to honour BBC Children in Need's Life President and legendary broadcaster, Sir Terry Wogan. A combination of songs that Sir Terry loved, or had a connection with, will lie at the heart of the concert and will be performed by a number of different artists including Take That, Ellie Goulding, Olly Murs, Gregory Porter, Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Rick Astley, Alexander Armstrong, Beverley Knight, The Vamps, Ward Thomas and Shaun Escoffery. The night will be hosted by Fearne Cotton and Greg James. BBC Children in Need Rocks for Terry will be broadcast on BBC One in Appeal Week.
The One Show Rickshaw Challenge
The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge is back, with a new team of riders and a new route across Britain’s East Coast. Returning for a sixth year, the team will cover a 470-mile journey from the Scottish market town of Jedburgh to central London, all to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
The rickshaw will once more be pedalled by six young riders, all of whom have been supported by BBC Children in Need-funded projects. The One Show presenter Matt Baker will be on the road cycling alongside the team offering support and advice throughout the journey, whilst Alex Jones will be following every step of the way, cheering on the team, live from studio.
To date the Challenge has raised more than £12million and in keeping with tradition, the young riders will not only test their pedal power, but also their mettle, as they deliver speeches to a live audience explaining their motivations for taking on the challenge this year. The team hopes their efforts will not only help them raise money, but awareness of the real difference being made to disadvantaged children and young people’s lives across the UK thanks to the Charity.
Viewers can tune in to The One Show on BBC One every night from Friday 11 November until Friday 18 November to watch as the team make their way from Jedburgh to London, in time for the BBC Children in Need Appeal Show.
Countryfile Ramble

The presenting team of BBC One’s Countryfile have been on a series of sponsored rambles across some of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes. The presenters were joined on the walks by viewers of the show as well as young people supported by BBC Children in Need funded projects.
This is the second year that Countryfile has led rambles in aid of the Charity and this year they will be heading to all corners of the UK. The presenter-led rambles took place at five different locations in October; the Eskdale Valley in the Lake District, The Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons, Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, Holyrood Park in Edinburgh and Alice Holt Forest in Surrey. ‘The Countryfile Ramble for BBC Children in Need’ will be broadcast on Sunday 6 November on BBC One.
Countryfile Calendar
The winner of this year’s Countryfile photographic competition is Berry Bunch, taken by Dean Mason. The winning photo takes pride of place on the front cover of the Countryfile 2017 calendar, in aid of BBC Children in Need. The theme for this year’s competition was ‘From Dawn to Dusk’. We had more than 21,000 entries, from which our judges John Craven, Deborah Meaden and Simon King chose the final 12 calendar images. They show our beautiful British countryside in all its guises, from the break of day to night fall. You can buy your calendar by going to bbc.co.uk/pudsey
DIY SOS: Million Pound Build for BBC Children in Need

Nick Knowles, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and the team venture to Blackpool to tackle DIY SOS: Million Pound Build for BBC Children in Need. This special DIY SOS looks at the lives of the nation’s young carers, in particular those supported by Blackpool Carers Centre, which receives funding from BBC Children in Need. The programme features Tyanna, 11, and Gracie, 10, who grocery shop, bathe and generally care for their disabled mother, Suzanne, a former nurse, who was diagnosed with osteoporosis, as well as their dad, Sean, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The team and hundreds of volunteers work tirelessly to renovate an enormous neglected site owned by the Carers Centre, from a dilapidated building to an unrecognisable, inspiring and colourful base for Tyanna, Gracie and other young people with caring responsibilities. The show will be broadcast on Thursday, 17 November 2016, 8pm on BBC One.
BBC Children In Need Bargain Hunt Special
Natasha Raskin and the team will be filming this year’s auction for the BBC Children in Need Bargain Hunt special. In the Red corner will be Dev Griffin & Alice Levine from BBC Radio 1 and in the Blue corner will be Nick Robinson & Aasmah Mir from BBC Radio 4. It’s a real battle of the air waves! Special Auction Services in Newbury, Berkshire will be where the teams battle it out at the auction to try and raise the most amount of money for BBC Children in Need. Wielding the gavel will be Bargain Hunt’s very own Thomas Plant.
Prison, My Parents and Me

In a ground-breaking BBC Children in Need Special, Prison, My Parents and Me shows us what it’s like to be a prisoner’s child, and gives children often lost in the system a chance to tell their own stories. The number of children with a mum or dad in prison is growing at an alarming rate. Over 10,000 children visit a parent in prison every week, but whilst their parent is on the inside, outside the children are often bullied and left feeling isolated and ostracised.
