Factual Radio itself makes more than four hundred hours of programmes a year, for Radio Four, Five Live, Six Music and BBC 7. The programmes include 'Woman's Hour', 'You and Yours', 'The Message', 'Sport on 5', 'Front Row', 'Rocket Science' and a wide range of ad hoc documentary series. As can be seen from the programmes Factual Radio make, it's a wide and eclectic mix with subject areas that include the arts, sport, the media, consumer affairs, popular music, children, investigations and women's issues. As a result the department has wide range of specialists who work together to produce this varied output. Presenters include everyone from Jenni Murray and Sheila McLennon, to Marc Riley, John Waite and Mark Lawson. Factual Radio was also one of the radio departments that took part in Manchester's first radio open day which encouraged the local community to come into the BBC and find out about Manchester's varied radio output, as well as being a natural and interesting way of trying to promote greater links with the local community. The day was a success as more than seven hundred and fifty visitors from schools and community groups had a chance to read a news bulletin, edit, surf BBC online, as well as spin some tunes with 1Xtra DJ G Money. The day also highlighted output such as Radio 3 music, 'Five Live Sport', 'Thought For The Day' and 'File on 4'. BBC GMR broadcast live from the event and BBC recruitment offered careers advice. |
