As well as new and exciting factual entertainment shows such as 'The Bank of Mum and Dad' and 'Dragons' Den', it is also known for 'event TV' such as the 'Top of the Pops Awards' and behind the scenes shows on BBC Three such as 'Pure 24' and 'Access All Areas'. It has established a strong reputation for making clever and culturally relevant archive based programming such as 'I Love the Seventies' and the recent BBC Two hit 'Britain's Best Sitcom' and has produced BBC Three documentaries on subjects as diverse as a second-hand car salesman (which was made by award winning film maker Richard Macer) and Jordan. The department has continued to develop its existing brand successes by extending BBC Two's 'Mastermind' to include 'Celebrity Mastermind' shows and 'Junior Mastermind' for BBC One. Complimenting the creative innovation of the television department is the Entertainment and Features New Media team, who produce programme support sites for 'A Question of Sport', 'Mastermind', 'The Bank of Mum and Dad' and 'Britain's Best Sitcom' including all its voting applications. The team delivers the BBC Talent site, which supports a key BBC initiative as well as the Entertainment online portal, bbc.co.uk/entertainment and the RTS award winning, 3d animation, 'Virtual Replay' for BBC Sport interactive.
Other new developments include the establishment of a comedy department working to Kenton Allen in London, with a specific brief to develop new Northern writers, as well as to build a BBC production base outside London for performing talent in the North West. This part of the department is run as a bi-media operation and also produces network programming for Radio 4. |
