Radio Entertainment

Radio Entertainment in Manchester is a tiny but busy unit responsible for some of Radio 4's key quiz and comedy output, as well as occasional material for other networks, presented by some of the most high-profile names in broadcasting.

We produce three continuing and annual quiz series for Radio 4:

Ned Sherrin

'Counterpoint' with Ned Sherrin, which is a general knowledge music quiz marshalled by one of the great popular entertainers; 'Round Britain Quiz' with Nick Clarke, which is still considered one of radio's most cryptic quizzes; and 'Masterteam'
with Peter Snow, which was devised by the team behind 'Mastermind'. 'The Round Britain Quiz' is also supported by its own homepage where there is program info and plenty of cryptic and puzzling online fun. Our recent output has also encompassed successful original comedy strands such as 'The in Crowd' and the 'Jail Diaries of Sir Ralph Stanza'.

Peter Snow

Radio Entertainment in Manchester also produced Radio 2's recent 50th anniversary tribute night, 'Hancock's Whole Evening', which was hosted by Paul Merton. Our comedy archive series for Radio 4 over the past two years have included programs like 'Double Trouble', 'Housego's Unknowns', 'The Palace of Laughter', 'Six Characters in Search of an Answer', 'We Interrupt This Programme' and 'Left Bank of the Mind', and have been presented by funny men and all-round knowledgeable chaps like Barry Cryer, Mark Thomas, Stuart Maconie, Fred Housego and Geoffrey Wheeler.

Recent successful one-offs also include 'I Have a Cunning Plan', John Lloyd's history of the Blackadder series and 'No Fixed Abode', 'Cricklewood', Phill Jupitus's tribute to The Goodies. Not forgetting Marc Riley's profiles of Norman Wisdom and Albert Modley, 'Don't Laugh at Me' and 'Mine's An 'Arf' and 'Swing When You're Laughing, in which Humphrey Lyttelton explored the symbiosis between comedy and jazz; as well as Bill Bailey's off-beat history of the 'Theremin, Good Vibrations'.
