| Burtonwood Association Reunion |
|
| | The Burtonwood Association was formed in 1987 by Aldon Ferguson as a result of the response from his first book on the base. |
"The concept of reunions is for the men and women who worked there to meet together in the States every year and the UK every alternate year to remember their times at Burtonwood and meet old friends.
| | Reunions last about five days and are eagerly anticipated by many with approx 300 attending the US ones and this year 70 in the UK and 140 two years ago. |
"Bear in mind that Burtonwood was a US base form 1942 to 1946; then 1948 - 1965 then 1967 - 1993 so we are looking at two to three generations.
| | Many of the Americans have English brides who still have families in the UK. |
"We see reunions going on indefinitely as our membership is slowly growing despite the deaths of older members the US Army will supply members for at least another 30 years. "We vote in the US to determine if everyone is happy to have the current mix an we always get a positive result. "This year, 2002, we have two main reunions, Warrington and Biloxi, Mississippi in October plus a mini California group reunion which has just finished, a 59th Air Police Squadron Reunion, 59th Medical group Reunion and 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Sqn plus one for children who attended the American High School on the base - all relating directly to Burtonwood. " "We are very active!" |
