"We have over 400 pupils at the main school school and another 50 attend the nursery.

"The community is very supportive in our work and we get involved with local people when we can.

The centre

"It is very much still a village and we are pleased to be at the centre. The whole point of a school is that it needs community involvement.

"We have involved the children in making a radio broadcast for a community station.

"As part of the arts festival a local sculptor helped the children to produce work that was displayed in the school and library.

"A poet also created poetry with the children in the school.

Active
"We have a very active parent and staff association that help with events like the Autumn fair and Halloween Disco to bring in much needed funds.

"Many parents are bringing their children back to the school they attended and my Deputy Head, Anne Longley, was a pupil here.

Multi-racial

"That thread of continuity is very pleasing but the area is very dynamic. The school catchment area is multi-racial and we have children from Afro-caribean, Sikh, Muslim and Jewish communities among others.

"This is a very popular area to live and housing is moving very quickly.

"The only thing I would welcome is a wider road at the back of the school. You can imagine the sight of 400 children leaving at one time.

"We hope that parents will park a safe distance away and walk to school because we do need a safe access."
