ਕਮਾਲ ਹੈ...ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਕੁਝ ਮਿੰਟ ਲੇਟ ਹੋਣ ਬਦਲੇ ਅਸਤੀਫਾ ਦੇ ਦੇਣਾ। ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਅਤਿ।

Maybe it is.... but punctuality is really important... he should feel bad - he should be on time.

‘Punctuality’ ਮਤਲਬ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ- ਹਾਂ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਲੋਕ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਾਬੰਦ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਹੋਰ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।

I think being punctual is always important... it’s just a courtesy isn’t it.

Courtesy ਮਤਲਬ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਜਾਂ ਅਦਬ, ਪਰ ਕੀ ਪੱਕਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੈ? Or is that just your rule?

I think it’s a good rule for everyone - it’s not courteous to keep people waiting for you...

Sam
You seem very sure... but let’s turn this around... Say you’re rushing to an appointment with someone.....

Rushing...ਮਤਲਬ ਕਾਹਲੀ ਕਰਨਾ, ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਲੰਦਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਹਲ ਹੈ।

Sam
Yeah, and then you meet someone, someone you haven’t seen for a long time... and they want to stop and talk.... what do you do then? Is rushing off a courtesy here?

Phil
umm... ooh.... that’s different... um... yeah it’s different.

ਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅੱਜ ਲੇਟ ਹੋ... were you being discourteous to us?

Phil
Yeah…… um my train was late

Sam
So you see things are a bit more complicated than B thinks - I don’t think it’s punctuality that’s important - It’s a shared understanding of how to think about time that’s important.

A shared understanding ਇੱਕ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਸਮਝ ਜਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਆਪਸੀ ਸਮਝ- Can you give an example of that, Sam?

Sam
Sure, say you are organising a party, so you tell people to come at 9 - thinking they’ll be there at 9.30. If someone actually comes at 9.00 you might still be getting ready.

I’d be there at 9.

Hmmm... that’s no surprise! ਮੇਰਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਪਸੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਵ ਹੈ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਅਲੱਗ ਅਲੱਗ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਿਆਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਪੁੱਛੇ ਸਵਾਲ ਦਾ ਜੁਆਬ ਦੇਵਾਂ। Business Insider ਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਤਿੰਨ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਪਾਨ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪਾਬੰਦ ਹੈ।

Erm, yeah, but you’d have to be on time for work there Phil.
