Useful expressions

1. Set to take off

અહીં હેડલાઈન એટલે કે મથાળામાં set to take off નો અર્થ થાય છે રવાના માટે તૈયાર થવું. આનો તમે ત્યારે પણ ઉપયોગ કરી શકો જ્યારે એવી સંભાવના હોય કે વ્યક્તિ અથવા વસ્તુ વધુ સફળ થશે અથવા તો પ્રગતિ કરશે. એરપોર્ટ વિશેની હેડલાઈનમાં take off નો કઈ ચાલાકીથી ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવ્યું છે, તે વિશે ખાસ ધ્યાન આપો.

• Wages set to take off next year.
• Property prices set to take off in third quarter.

2. push for / pushback against

બન્નેનો હેડલાઈનમાં સંજ્ઞા તરીકે ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવ્યું છે પણ તેમનો ક્રિયાપદ તરીકે પણ ઉપયોગ કરી શકો. Pushback બનશે push back. 'Push for' એટલે કંઈક થાય એના માટે ધક્કો મારવો અથવા મહેનત કરવું. 'Pushback against' એ 'push for' નો વિરોધી શબ્દ છે, જેનો અર્થ થાય છે કંઈક થતાં અટકાવવું અથવા એવો પ્રયાસ કરવો.

• Party members push back against new policy.
• Unions push for better wages.

3. pave way for

Pave a way for something એટલે કંઈક થાય તે માટે સરળતા કરી આપવી. તે અલંકાર છે જે રસ્તો બનાવવા ઉપર આધારિત છે.

• New housing policy to pave way for cheaper rents.
• 5G technology to pave way for new types of businesses.
