Practise, practise, practise…

Oops, someone has just broken their mobile phone. Broken is the past participle of break, and it's irregular.

In 6 Minute Vocabulary, Finn and Catherine introduced us to four groups of irregular verbs. Each group followed a particular pattern.

In each group there are three verb forms, in this order: infinitive, past simple, past participle.

Group 1

  • break, broke, broken
  • wake, woke, woken

Group 2

  • know, knew, known
  • grow, grew, grown

Group 3

  • begin, began, begun
  • sing, sang, sung

Group 4

  • write, wrote, written
  • drive, drove, driven

To do

So, how well do you know these verbs? Let's do a quick test. You have put the verb forms in the order (infinitive, past simple, past participle). The 'hint' will tell you which group the verb belongs to, if you've forgotten or if you don't know! And watch out for forms which are not correct or not part of the group.

7 Questions

Each question has three gaps, for the 1) infinitive, 2) past simple, 3) past participle. You only need three of the five options. Good luck!
