Emmanuel Macron has been voted President of France for a second time. He won 58 percent of the vote against Marine Le Pen – a far-right candidate.
He promised to unite France and said that he understood many people had voted for him to stop Marine Le Pen getting into power.

The story
President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to unite France after he was re-elected for a second term. Mr Macron won 58 per cent of the vote to see off the challenge from the far-right candidate, Marine Le Pen.
In his victory address at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, Mr Macron said he knew that many people had voted for him purely to stop his opponent.
