चाकाचा शोध मानवी उत्क्रांतीताला सर्वात महत्त्वाचा शोध. Imagine our life without wheels!! Impossible. Isn’t it? To reinvent the wheel!  तुम्ही हा वाक्प्रचार ऐकलाय का? हाच आहे  आजचा वाक्पचार. चला, अर्थ समजून घेऊ.

नील आणि फिफी स्टूडियोमध्ये शोची तयारी करत आहेत. नीलला काय अडचण आली. आता फिफी काय उपाय सुचवेल त्यावर?

Well, I thought that you could pretend to arrive late… I've lost my coffee…I just need to think of an authentic real English phrase to use now…

बहुतेक नीलची तयारी नीट झालेली नाही. ऐकू या तर चला काय झालंय ते.

Oh come on Neil, there is no need to reinvent the wheel! 

Neil
Feifei, you're amazing – to reinvent the wheel – that's a great English phrase. I'll use that in my script.

To reinvent the wheel means 'to waste time trying to create something that has already been made'. So I'm saying, don't waste time writing a script that has already been written – all your ideas have been written before!

फिफी नीलला म्हणाली, तू जे आधी ठरवलेलं तेच कर. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Wheel म्हणजे चाक, invent म्हणजे शोध लावणे. एखाद्या शब्दाआधी re हा प्रत्यय असेल तर त्याचा अर्थ, ती गोष्ट सुरवातीपासून पुन्हा करणे असा होतो. चाकाचा शोध कधी लागला? हजारो वर्षांपूर्वी! आणि त्याचा शोध किंवा असेच मोठे शोध लावणं काही सोपी गोष्ट होती का? आता मला सांगा, गाडीच्या चाकासाठी तुम्ही परत सगळी मेहनत करणार का? नाही! तुम्ही सरळ दुकानात जाऊन, हजारो वर्षांपूर्वी शोध लावलेलं चाक घेऊन येणार. चाकाचा शोध काही परत लावत बसणार नाही.  We won’t reinvent the wheel. एखाद्या कामासाठी आधीच खूप मेहेनत घेतलेली आहे, त्यावर पुरेसं काम झालेलं आहे, त्यावर आणखी वेळ घालवणं म्हणजे वेळेचा अपव्यय!. अशा परिस्थितीत हा वाक्प्रचार वापरतात. ही उदाहरणं ऐकू.

Examples

Don't reinvent the wheel; we already have a plan that seems to work well.

He spent days working out the new course syllabus when we had planned it already – he's just reinvented the wheel!

Nancy's new idea is just the same as the old one – she's just reinvented the wheel!

समजली का ही उदाहरणं तुम्हाला? पहिल्या उदाहरणात त्यांचा जुना प्लॅन आधीच ठरला होता, आणि तो अजूनही work होतोय. सगळं सुरळीत चालू आहे त्याप्रमाणे. त्यामुळे त्यांना त्या प्लॅनमध्ये बदल करायचा नाहीये. They didn’t have to ‘reinvent the wheel’.

दुसऱ्या उदाहरण जुन्या अभ्यासक्रमाचं, म्हणजे course syllabusचं. त्यावर सगळं काम झालेलं. पण तरी कोलीनने त्यावर अजून वेळ घालवला, ज्याची काहीच गरज नव्हती. He just reinvented the wheel!

तिसरं उदाहरण नॅन्सीचं. तिची कल्पना जुनीच, चाकासारखी, तिने फक्त reinvent केलं. फिफी आणि नीलला परत ऐकू.
