Useful expressions 

1. dampen sales

Dampen sales એટલે વેચાણ ઓછું થવું. Dampen નો શાબ્દિક અર્થ થાય છે આગને દબાવી દેવુ, ઘણીવાર પાણીનો ઉપયોગ કરીને. જેમ પાણી આગને કમજોર કરી નાંખે છે, તેવી જ રીતે વસ્તુઓને કમજોર રીતે દર્શાવવા માટે ‘dampen’ નો લાક્ષણિક રીતે ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવે છે.

2. uptick

Uptick એટલે નજીવો વધારો. Uptick નો સામાન્યતઃ વ્યવસાયિક સંદર્ભમાં ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવે છે અને તે પણ અમેરિકન અંગ્રેજીમાં વધુ થાય છે.

3. dull lustre

Lustre નો શાબ્દિક અર્થ થાય છે ચમકવું અને જો lustre એ dull થઈ જાય તો અર્થ થયો કે ચમક ઘટી ગયું. લાક્ષિણક રીતે જોઈએ તો અર્થ થયો કે આકર્ષણ ઓછું થઈ ગયું.
