You know what a day is – it's 24 hours long and there are seven of them in a week! But did you know there are some English phrases with the word 'day'? Learn some of them here with Phil.
Phrases with 'day'
all in a day's work
usual and expected in a particular job, even though it might seem surprising or difficult to others
- For some marine bioligists, swimming with sharks is all in a day's work.
make your day
make you feel happy
- I met my new baby niece this morning and she smiled at me – it really made my day!
had its day
become broken or outdated
- Now that we can choose films so easily using online streaming services, video rental stores have sadly had their day.
call it a day
stop working or doing something
- This hike was a great idea, but I think I'm going to call it a day and go home – it's raining too hard!

Today's the day! We're going to learn four phrases with 'day'.
Something that is all in a day's work is something that might be difficult, but you do it every day.
Making learning English seem easy is all in a day's work for me!
Something that makes you really happy makes your day.
When I make someone else smile, it makes my day.
Something that just doesn't work anymore, or is just too old-fashioned, has had its day.
I need a new phone – this one has had its day.
Now the fourth phrase – call it a day. If you call it a day, that means that you stop working on something or just stop doing something.
I'm going to just make one more call. Then I'm going to call it a day!
Don't call it a day yet. Make sure you learn these four phrases with 'day'!
