Adverbs of frequency: Grammar rules

Now that we've looked at the meaning of some adverbs of frequency, let's find out how you use them in a sentence.

Have a look at these sentences and pay special attention to the context - that means the words that come before and after each adverb of frequency.

  • I always use my Oyster card.
  • It usually takes 40 minutes.
  • You should always eat breakfast.
  • That doesn't often happen.
  • I'm always on my bike.
  • They aren't usually late for work.

Here usually has the same meaning as normally. These adverbs could be used when we want to say something happens about 60 to 80% of the time.
