मागच्या भागात 2 गोष्टींची तुलना कशी करायची ते शिकलो, पण दोन पेक्षा जास्त गोष्टी असतील तर? आज शिकूया.

1. I think Japanese food is the nicest food in the world. It's definitely the tastiest.

2. Mexican food is the most delicious, in my opinion.

3. Of all the food in the world, Italian is the best! And English is the worst.

Ah, I'm hungry now! हे सगळेजण खाण्याबद्दल बोलतायत… वेगवेगळ्या भागातील अन्नपदार्थांच्या चवीबद्दल बोलतायत. माझ्या तोंडाला तर पाणी सुटलंय.

Yes, they talked ab out Japanese, Mexican, Italian and English food. So they were taking one type of food and comparing it to many others.

आणि त्यासाठी आपल्याला काही म्हणजे विशेषणांची गरज आहे कुठली विशेषणं वापरू शकतो आपण? चला सांगते; यासाठी 'nice' म्हणजे  मस्त,', 'tasty' म्हणजे चविष्ट , 'delicious' म्हणजे चवदार, 'good' म्हणजे 'छान आणि 'bad' म्हणजे वाईट हे शब्द वापरू शकतो.

Let's listen again to the first speaker – how does he use the words 'nice' and 'tasty'?

I think Japanese food is the nicest food in the world. It's definitely the tastiest.

Ok, आता 'nice' सारख्या One syllable म्हणजे एक शब्दावयव असलेल्या किंवा 'tasty' यासारख्या दोन शब्दावयव म्हणजे two syllable असलेल्या शब्दांसाठीचा नियम सांगते तुम्हाला... अशा शब्दांच्या आधी ‘the’ वापरून नंतर त्या शब्दाला '-est'हा प्रत्यय लावायचा. 'Nice' च्या शेवटी ‘e’आहे, त्यामुळे त्याच्या शेवटी फक्त '-st' हा प्रत्यय लागेल.

And in the case of 'tasty', the 'y' at the end changes to an 'I' in 'the tastiest'. This doesn't change the pronunciation, it's just when you’re writing.

आता जर 'delicious' सारखे मोठे, दोनपेक्षा अधिक शब्दावयव असलेले शब्द आले तर काय करायचं? Listen again:

Mexican food is the most delicious, in my opinion.

In this case, we don't change the adjective – 'delicious' stays 'delicious'.

त्या ऐवजी आपण त्या विशेषणाच्या आधी दोन शब्द लिहितो, 'the most'.

Yes, so ‘interesting' becomes 'the most interesting', 'exciting' becomes 'the most exciting', etcetera. Shall we practise the pronunciation? 

Repeat after me, please:

the most delicious   

It’s the most delicious food in the world.  

And we just have two more to look at quickly!

Yes, पण याला दोन अपवाद आहेत आणि ते महत्त्वाचे अपवाद आहेत. ऐका...

Italian is the best! And English is the worst.

They were 'the best' and 'the worst'.

Best आणि worst च्या आधी फक्त the येतं; कारण हे दोन्ही शब्द त्यांचे मूळ शब्द ‘good' आणि 'bad'पेक्षा वेगळे आहेत आणि त्यांना '-est'चा प्रत्यय लागत नाही.

So don’t say 'the goodest' or 'the baddest' – they're not correct!

Now it's time for some practice. आता इंग्रजी शिकण्याचा सर्वांत स्वस्त पर्याय कुठला ते तुम्हाला ठरवायचंय. यासाठी तुम्हाला cheap हा शब्द वापरायचा आहे. एक 'alone with books'म्हणजे पुस्तकं वाचून, दुसरा 'in class' म्हणजे वर्गात बसून किंवा तिसरा 'online' म्हणजे म्हणजे इंटरनेटवर म्हणजे जसं आपण आत्ता शिकतोय. विचार करा आणि नंतर सॅमचं उत्तरही ऐका.
