START: Begin this route at the Parish Hall in St Aubin. St Aubin, with its 18th century harbour, has fine merchants' houses along the Bulwarks. Look out for the Old Court House, where privateers shared out the spoils from plundered French shipping.

Proceed from the Parish Hall up the Corbiere Walk, until you reach the point where the walk passes above a lane (past a small farm on the right). Wheel your bike down the steps onto the lane. Leaving the farm to your right, turn left at the top of the lane and ride up the hill. Notice the unusual direction stone on the corner.

At the next T-junction, turn left and immediately right into Rue des Fosses a Mortier, then turn right by the farm walk. Take the first left, Rue des Landes, sign-posted to St Peter (B42). Cross the main road by the Rugby Club, and into the road marked 'No Through Road' which leads to a track passing behind the Airport runway. Jersey Airport is one of the busiest in the world.

At the end of the track carry straight on. Turn left at, but not onto, the main road. At St Peter's Church turn left and first nght into Rue du Bocage. Cross over the first crossroads into Rue des Niemes, then turn left into Rue de la Presse (a 'green lane' with a 15 mph speed limit) and straight down the long hill (Mont de la Mare) with marvellous views of the whole of St Ouen's Bay. Known locally as the Five Mile Road (from the Norman-French 'Mielles', meaning sand dunes), this is a surfers' paradise.

At the bottom of the hill, turn right, past Bethesda Methodist Chapel and Sunset Nurseries on the left. There are no turnings now for nearly 2 miles (3 km); just follow the Chemin du Moulin until you reach the next main road. Short detours at this point, both to the left and right, lead to various attractions.

Cross over the main road and take the last turning on the right before the beach, La Verte Rue, then left past Le Relais des Mielles and fork right up Mont du Vallet, leaving the Lobster Pot to your right. Climbing the steep hill, take a brief rest to savour the breath-taking views back across the bay.

Turn sharp left at the bend at the top of the hill into Rue du Ouest. There are tracks off to the left along this road, leading to Le Pinacle, one of Jersey's best known Neolithic sites. Please leave bicycles in the car park and continue on foot to avoid disturbing the local flora and fauna.

Continue to the very end of this road until you see the signs to the race course and Grosnez. Turn off here, visit Grosnez Castle and enjoy the views of Guernsey, Herm and Sark.

Return to the main road. Turn right and then first left just after the house called Highview Lodge. At the end of Rue de la Pointe, turn left into Les Pallieres and at the Hotel du Puits (La Forge Bar) turn right. Pass Portinfer Farm on the right and take the second left into Rue de la Croute (which becomes Rue de la Gabourllerie). Turn right at the T-junction (a short detour to the left leads to the Dolmen des Geonnais), right at the main road and immediately left (Les Doubles Caches) past Vinchelez Manor.

Turn left at the end of this lane and immediately right into Rue Platte Raie, bearing right at the next yellow line. There are now no turnings for over a mile. Cross over the main road into Rue de Mahaut, then Rue de Grantez, which becomes Rue du Couvent, until you reach St Ouen's Mill. Near the large greenhouses after a mile or so, watch out for a sign on the wall pointing to Les Monts Grantez Dolmen.

After the old St Ouen's Mill, turn left, keeping the church on your left. Just before the main road you will find the entrance to St Ouen's Manor, which was given in perpetuity to the de Carteret family by King Charles II and is one of Jersey's few surviving Seigneunes.

The main St Ouen's road is next; a fast road, so take care. Cross over into Rue du Douet, then first right into Rue de la Mare des Cauchez (becomes Rue d'Elysee), right again at the next T-junction and straight over the crossroads by the 'St Pierre' pump. Turn right at the next T-junction. At the main road cross into Rue des Sapins, and then fork immediately left into Rue de la Hague.

The route has no further turnings until you reach the bottom of the steep hill. Cross over Mont Fallu into Rue de la Fontaine and pass Wheatlands Golf Course on your left. At the bottom of the hill look out for the track to the right by the telephone kiosk immediately opposite the shops. This is the Beaumont Perquage, a path leading to the sea from St Lawrence Church.

Cross the main road at the pedestrian lights, and turn right to return to St Aubin. Charrières, quite a steep hill. At the very top of the hill turn right, drop down into the valley and tip to the main road. Turn left.

St Martin's Church is on the right and the Royal Hotel on the left. At the Royal Hotel, cross the main road into Rue de Payn, then left into La Longue Rue and across the main road in the direction of St. Catherine's (B62). Turn right opposite Les Petits Champs (do not go down the hill!). Follow this lane to the junction with the main road and cross straight over into the Rue des Alleurs. At the road-sign Rue de Ministre, fork right, then first left half-way dotwn the hill into Rue de la Chouquerterie.

Turn right at the bottom of the hill at Les Vaux Farm. The lane becomes Rue St Julien, then Rue de la Bachauderie. Look out for the peacocks!

Turn sharp left just after the small group of cottages, past the granite Champs Colin Guest House, and right at the main road to La Hougue Bie. A visit to this remarkable place is a must.

Leaving La Hougue Bie, turn left out of the entrance and bear left into Rue des Pigneaux. Turn left at the T-junction into Rue de la Coinmune, cross the main road into Rue de la Parade and first right into Rue du Paradis. Fork right half-way down this narrow lane, and turn left at the T-junction. Cycle down the hill as far as the first crossroads. Turn right into Rue de la Rerraire, then left into La Fréminerie, the first turning on the left. At the bottom of the hill turn right into Rue St Thomas.

At the Longueville Manor Hotel, take care crossing the main road into Rue des Près. This brings you back to the Recreation Grounds. If you continue to the traffic lights and turn left, the entrance to Samarès Manor is on your left, where you can enjoy a delicious cream tea (there is an entrance fee).
