Dua film, Birdman dan The Grand Budapest Hotel, sama-sama mendapatkan sembilan nominasi untuk Piala Oscar, disusul dengan The Imitation Game dengan delapan nominasi.
Sedangkan American Sniper dan Boyhood mendapat enam nominasi, seperti yang diumumkan pada Kamis 15 Januari.
Seluruhnya delapan film yang akan memperbutkan penghargaan film terbaik, yaitu (sesuai abjad) American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory of Everything, dan Whiplash.
Sedangkan nominasi sutradara terbaik adalah Wes Anderson untuk The Grand Budapest Hote, lAlejandro G Inarritu (Birdman), Richard Linklater (Boyhood) Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) Morten Tyldum dan (The Imitation Game).
Sementara bintang kawakan Meryl Streep kembali mendapat nominasi untuk perannya di The Woods yang menempatkan dia sebagai bintang perempuan yang paling banyak mendapat nominasi dengan 19 kali dicalonkan untuk meraih Oscar.
